"Recovery", on the other hand, reveals what a soft and kindly old man Eminem's become. For a rapper who used to make his bread and butter on Rap disses, it surprises me that Eminem is not dissing a single rapper.
In fact, he actually apologizes to the rappers he was even THINKING about dissing. WTF? Biggie and Pac were murdered (probably by the CIA) at their most aggressive peak. This made them immortal legends in my eyes. I think that perhaps Eminem missed out on this mortality.
So who or what do we blame for Eminem's downward spiral into softyville? True he lost his friend Proof (who might have been writing all of Em's good raps); he lost Kim (who might have been his inspiration); he got sentenced to probation (which might mean that he had to "clean up his act" and start getting along with people).
But perhaps it was losing his bleach blonde hair. After all, not only to blondes have more fun, but men with bleach blonde hair look inherently antisocial. It says to the world that you won't conform to the norms of society. You take this look with you wherever you go. I'm thinking that's what gave Em his secret edge and he needs to go back to it.
