Lil Wayne is gonna suck after prison
It happens to all great American artists. First they'll have--what's commonly referred to as--an "ego death" by taking the right kind of drugs. An ego death is a state when one becomes completely unaware of one's self. In this state, an artist can accurately describe the observable world without thinking about consequences.
Second, the artist will be arrested for some kind of charge. 2Pac was arrested for sexual assault, while Eminem was arrested for actual assault. The artist will then be exposed to a life without the comforts provided to him by the monetary success that he achieved.
Third, the artist will be put on probation, where he will no longer be able to participate in the drug culture under penalty of imprisonment. In this scenario, he will lose his ego death, but still remain a cultural phenomenon.
Lastly, the artist will produce ego-driven works that are a mere shadow of his former self. We have our government to thank for this. Please vote (I don't because I'm usually too fuck up to drive to the voting stations...but you should).
What It Means to be an Artist
I've been quite cruel towards a manufactured pop duo that will go unnamed, and I keep getting the comment that I should just ignore them if I dislike their music. I'm afraid I just can't do that. I take the label "artist" very seriously, and it's about time that I define what that word means to me.
But first, a little background. Even our Neanderthal cousins developed music and pottery. Animals such as birds and whales are known to sing complex songs. So why did artists evolve in human society?
The reason why singers developed in the animal world is simple: SEX. The best artists, as subjectively judged by the female, will procreate and therefore carry their genes to the next generation. Therefore, at the most primal level, artists compete with each other over a deep desire to impress females.
But then technology came along. Now great works of art can be imitated and mass produced. Singers can be auto-tuned in order to fake real talent. Songs can be so processed by sound engineers that they lose any kind of human imperfection.
Big music labels have hijacked the primal instinct of falling in love with a talented artist. If you feel a connection towards a pop musician with no discernible talent, it's because people that are smarter than you have essentially trick you into it.
See the fakery for what it is. If you really like a musician, listen to him live in concert and make sure he has real talent.

Eminem: Blondes have better raps
I'm trying to speculate about when and why Eminem's lyrics went from "amazing" to "eh". The "when" part is actually quite easy for me to answer: "Encore" was his first album that wasn't worth buying. Then came "Relapse", which was Eminem's half-hearted attempt to venture into the territories of horror rap.
"Recovery", on the other hand, reveals what a soft and kindly old man Eminem's become. For a rapper who used to make his bread and butter on Rap disses, it surprises me that Eminem is not dissing a single rapper.
In fact, he actually apologizes to the rappers he was even THINKING about dissing. WTF? Biggie and Pac were murdered (probably by the CIA) at their most aggressive peak. This made them immortal legends in my eyes. I think that perhaps Eminem missed out on this mortality.
So who or what do we blame for Eminem's downward spiral into softyville? True he lost his friend Proof (who might have been writing all of Em's good raps); he lost Kim (who might have been his inspiration); he got sentenced to probation (which might mean that he had to "clean up his act" and start getting along with people).
But perhaps it was losing his bleach blonde hair. After all, not only to blondes have more fun, but men with bleach blonde hair look inherently antisocial. It says to the world that you won't conform to the norms of society. You take this look with you wherever you go. I'm thinking that's what gave Em his secret edge and he needs to go back to it.
Bieber's Voice and Michael Jackson
I sometimes imagine what Michael Jackson's voice would've sounded like if he had never taken hormone treaments to stunt his pubescent phase. Would his voice have change? What would it have sounded like? Would he still have been as talented? One thing's for sure: his best albums (Thriller, Bad) would've sounded drastically different.
Though some might see it as immoral to prevent a child singer's voice from changing, the Catholic church used to castrate (cut the balls off of) young male singers as far back as the 1550's to prevent their voices from changing.
So...Bieber: you're gonna have to make the choice soon. Do you want to carry that awesome voice you have to adulthood, or do you want to be another one hit wonder/ former child star? It's a tough choice especially considering that the hormone treatment turned Michael Jackson into some sort of alien child molesting creature. Not an easy choice.
Did Justin Bieber Molest a Fan? No, but Jedward did
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kknl_Xi5Fps
In this shocking video, an unnamed person describes an incident where he visited a Jedward concert and was asked by the infamous Irish pop duo to hang out in their dressing room. His teary-eyed confessions culminates in his admission that "they touched my penis". Very disturbing development, but we'll keep you posted.
